Animal Cruelty Law FINALLY passes in Russia!

19 Jan, 2018
VICTORY! We have been fighting for this for many years and it’s FINALLY happening.

The law toughening the punishment for animal abuse in Russia has passed!

The abusers will pay over 1000 GBP fine (a very large sum for most Russians), do 360 hours of community service or go to jail for 6 months to 3 years. If the minor was present during the act of cruelty or it was published on the Internet the fine will be as large as nearly 4000 GBP and the jail time will be from 3 to 5 years. The wording of the law has also been amended, to make the law actually working and effective – there’s no longer the need to prove sadistic intent, just the fact of the animal cruelty itself is enough.

Now there will be a lot of work to ensure Russians are aware of the law, apply it and it actually works!

But today we have a reason for celebration! We have been fighting for this for the past 6 years and after many rejections and false hopes, the law has finally passed!
