Sochi
The city of Sochi in Southern Russia became famous when it hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics. It also made the global headlines thanks to the infamous case of alcoholic bears we tried to rescue a few years ago and later when the local authorities decided to ‘clean’ the streets for the Olympics by culling stray animals.
We have been doing on and off work in Sochi for many years supporting various groups of volunteers and shelters saving companion animals by funding neutering and warm kennels for animals, consulting on how to scale up their work to allow rescuing and re-homing more animals, teaching them how to fundraise locally for food and care etc.
We have also been reaching out to some of the facilities that keep wild animals in captivity to consult on how to improve their animals’ welfare using easy and affordable techniques.
